Here Are The Lasting 6 Fixes Unknown To Schools

Whether you are a  beginner, a struggling or an experienced actor, your acting, and life goal is to meet your objective-Be A Great, Wealthy and Happy With Name and Fame
To achieve this goal, you are working hard day in and day out. But are you a successful great actor and happy?
Most of the actors NOT!

How To Achieve Your Cherished Dream To Be A Successful Actor?

Step 1

What Are The Requirements?

  1. Good looks
  2. Good physique
  3. Good voice quality, breath control, range, diction, accent
  4. Excellent communication skills in Hindi and a reasonable ability to converse in English
  5. Good professional acting talent
  6. Impressive body language
  7. Finances to support long periods of instability without good income
  8. Ability to accept rejections
  9. Strong determination
  10. Able to struggle for a long time
  11. Patience in all situations
  12. Thick skin
  13. Good public relation skills
  14. Good networker
  15. Ready to learn till death

Step 2

Know how to meet the above requirements. List down action required and plan to meet these requirements

Step 3

Analyse yourself
-SWOT Analysis: Analyze your strengths, weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats to you
Know your type- who are you?

Step 4

How To Develop An Excellent Acting Ability?

Through our acting instrument

The acting instrument is
1. Body and 2. Mind

  • This instrument of everybody is "SET", which creates in you an “Essence”, an archetype which makes you a unique human with different physical, mental and behavioral type and attitude.  It's absolutely essential to know your type to help you to decide which "character type" can you portray and will prefer to for those auditions which need a character of your archetype.
  • If a person has to perform a fictional role in a situation to meet the objective, a new interesting life, a new character has to be created after analyzing the situation. This new role must be played truthfully and convincingly.
  • However, the biggest hurdle in this sincere endeavor is his “own self”, his essence, his/her “type”. The more an actor tries and forces self to act in the best possible way, more it looks an “acting” and fake. The actor’s  “self” like his/her body language, voice, gestures, attitudes, emotions etc come in the way to transform convincing into a character which an actor has created by his/her imagination.
  • Then, how an actor can transform into an authentic character which looks real?

Step 5

How An Actor Can Neutralize And Free Him\Herself To Portray A New Life?

Step 6

By Developing Acting Instrument (Body and Mind)

Action Plan

  • A. Observe self. Who are you? Note down your
  • Your Physical profile: height, weight, hair, face, eyes, mouth, skin, shoulder, chest, walk, gestures, voice, language, any physical abnormality, your style etc
  • Your Mental profile: attitude types, emotions, intelligence etc
  • Your Social Status: class (rich, middle class, poor), income, education, occupation, knowledge etc

Author's Note:

My personal opinion is,  though many may not agree is to create a new self- a blank slate or a page and may find it easier to try to fake or mimic a celebrity or an idol you worship,  Your transformation may not be convincing, even if you are too good and talented mimicry master. Remember, you are acting for the camera and it can read your true self and so the viewers
And this conviction of mine is based on observing and analyzing world’s great actors, They are legends, a history-
Charles Chaplin, Marlon Brando, Jack Nicholson, Daniel Day-Lewis, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Anthony Hopkins, Mohanlal (India), Kamal Haasan (India), Russell Crowe, Johnny Depp, Meryl Streep, Amitabh Bachchan (India)
Keep in mind, they are known today and would be remembered for generations first by their names and then by the characters they have played or awards they have won. However, these celebrities too focused on changing from “ self”- a common person, to transform and present an astonishing and highly creative performance giving a memorable character to the viewers thus lifting a film to incredible heights.

Step 7

Remember, physical and mental tension, fear and doubtful about self, people (strangers), situations and future is no1 enemy to an actor

Simple home exercises to practice daily

A.
 Body

Relaxation
Yoga-deep breathing, self-hypnotism and auto-suggestion techniques to be practiced either lying down or sitting (post)
Movements

  • Focus on practicing every part of your body starting from scalp (moving it), eyebrows (arching), eyes (Staring, large, small, narrowing), moving face and mouth while creating wild sounds, rolling of neck, movements of shoulders, use and vigorous movements of hands and fingers while talking, waist, legs and different types of walks
  • Special Movements
  • general wide movements
  • Expand and try to become big and bigger like a monster, contract and try to become small and smaller rolling into a small self on the ground
  • Walk weirdly with absurd gestures and movements to free your fixed type and to free your joints
  • Molding exercises for joints, fingers, transform into figures, sculptures, and objects
  • Floating- on sea, space or on the moon
  • Flying-against gravity, strong wind
  • Radiating- sending rays through body parts like hands, fingers, eyes, exhaling and breathing out sharply
  • Flowing on a river course (turbulence, calm waters)
  • Creating beauty in body language (by gestures and movements of anything you do), even in voice (quality, breath control, range, diction, accent)
  • Learn to free your physical type to be able to transform into a new life by learning dance, music, mimicry, martial arts

B.
Mind

The Key: Develop the power of imagination

1.Observation: Set time for observing very keenly people, birds, animals, objects at public places like the bus stop, garden. metro rail stations, zoo, museums etc.
2. Create stories on observed characters- ask questions on their life and create replies self thus building scenes
3. Then play these created stories self-being one of the character in the story you created for the object you observed

Word game

Write down few random 7 words in big fonts on a piece of paper like

  • Blue
  • Rose
  • Fire
  • Chicken
  • Bee
  • Sky
  • and so on, one below the other
Relax. Close your eyes and put your finger on a word. Look at the word and create a story, experience, a related scene.
Now perform telling and showing the scene in front of an imaginary audience

Develop the power of listening

Learn from Sanford Meisner's acting technique- The Reality Of Doing and practice "Listen and React Truthfully" exercise

In our hectic and stressful life, we unconsciously don’t listen attentively. The result is our inappropriate reaction and responses which may not be appreciated by one who is talking to you. In life, we react and behave with what we experience, by our 5 senses on what we hear, see, smell, touch, and taste. The key is we must carefully notice these experiences to create convincing, truthful and real responses to meet our objectives
The best way is to recollect and practice those real scenes of what we heard or experienced with our 5 senses

You're Shit Scared | Shot Ready No Script | 5 Panic Killing Tips

How to fight a panic before your film shot or in audition
Kill your worst enemy panic and nervousness before a shot

On TV Serial Set they don't give you your lines until the last moment. What's the solution to fighting panic?

How to fight nervousness and panic before an audition?

While on Balaji TV serial, I got my lines at the last moment. My shot was bad because of tenseness. What to do?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes, this could be common in filming of an Indian TV serial and also a normal feature with most of the actors before an audition

Here are 5 Great tips on how to fight and kill panic in the event of getting your lines just before the shot

Firstly, Do You Know What Really Happens on a Movie or TV Set?

Congratulations!

  • You are selected in an audition for a role in a movie "Zero To Hero". This is your first assignment as an actor, a real break in your career. You will be facing a camera for the first time and also be visiting a movie set (location where shooting will take place) for the first time.
  • You became crazy with excitement when you got a call from a production house, but all they told you was "You are in" and "We will let you know the details later".
  • However, you wanted to know everything- When and where I have to go? Whom I have to report? When I will get the script? For how many days? What about the pay? When would be the rehearsals? You want everything well in advance and though you are right, that "Later" invariably never comes till the last day.
  • I have seen many first time actors getting terribly frustrated and mess up their performance while doing their first scene.
  • Therefore, be prepared to accept unexpected. You may not get any details till you reach for a set.
  • Each set is different. Some are friendly, some are not. Some move fast in some move slow. Some are fun, some not so much.

The following may happen though not necessary.

  • You may be probably informed the night before when and where to reach.
  • You wonder why they don’t tell you earlier. Now, this may happen. Every day the 1st AD sits down during a break to determine what shots need to be done the following day and who is needed for those shots. But, they can't make the final decision until they know how many shots they completed on the current day. If they’re running behind they might have to push your scene to another day. Or, if they suddenly lose a location due to whether they might have to alter things. There are hundreds of reasons why the shooting schedule has to be fluid and able to change at the drop of a hat. So, for that reason don't expect to get your call time or anything else until late the evening before. They put actors on hold for several days for a reason. They can never predict what will actually happen in a particular shoot day.  It's just common practice. If it’s 11PM and you still haven’t heard, maybe now you have a reason to be concerned. That might be the time to call to your coordinator or agent.

1. What to do after you get details of when and where to reach?

  • Once you get your call time and shooting location, it's your job to get there on time. In other words sufficient (and I do mean SUFFICIENT) of time to get there. Traffic is always an issue in Mumbai and the last thing you want to do is keep a crew, a director and millions of Rupees of equipment waiting for you. That's a surefire way to get you out and lose the role. Just because Salman Khan or Kareena Kapoor Khan shows up an hour late doesn't mean you can too. When you get that famous… still, don’t do it!
  • Remember; don't bring a lot of stuff in your backpack. In a chaos which is common to a set, it may be misplaced or stolen. Ask somebody whom you are supposed to report. Usually, it is the 2nd AD. You're finally ready to start your first day of shooting.

2. What To Do Next?

The 2nd AD will usually tell you what to do first and where to go. Go to the room and don't get upset if you find a tiny room which is cramped up with unknown faces. Don't get surprised if there are no actors like mothers, sisters of actors or assistant makeup artist or sound guys present there.
Generally, you will do the following things before you head to the set. They may not necessarily be in this order, but they are:

  • You will get your lines and some time to memorize
  • Get into your wardrobe
  • (With small production houses, you may have to arrange your own dress and props)
  • Get your hair and makeup done,
  • Luckily if you get your lines in advance and if you have prepared it, 2nd Ad will check over your lines to see if you have memorized your lines correctly or not. Be prepared for a horror of lines being changed at the last moment!!
  • What about food? Don't worry, here Indian cinema definitely scores over Hollywood or Other International Production Houses. You will be fed well by most of the production houses with unlimited snacks, tea and coffee and sumptuous lunch or dinner irrespective of whether you are a "Star" or not.

3. The Camera Rehearsal

When the crew and the director are ready for your first scene, they will put you in place for a camera rehearsal. A camera rehearsal is where they block you (tell you where to stand and move) and run the scene so the camera crew can see what they're shooting and lighting. You will be asked to speak your lines with Co actors or without, maybe with 2nd AD who will read outlines of the other Co actor. Remain calm as there will be a lot of commotion around you with adjustment of lights, someone pushing lapel mike under your wardrobe, few people shouting and running around you etc.
Be focused on your character and on your lines

4. Shooting the Scene

Be prepared to shoot the scene from numerous angles, numerous times. I've been on sets where everything is done in one take. TV Soaps are the perfect example and I've been on sets where it's common to do 20 takes from numerous angles. Again, you'll quickly learn about each shot. All you have to do is adjusting to it accordingly. Don't give away all your emotions in the long shots. Those are usually done first. Try to reserve most of your emotions for your close-up. Generally, directors will shoot the long shots first, in order to capture the whole scene with all or most of the actors. Then, they usually move in for medium shots. And finally, they move all the way in for the close-ups. Keep in mind that most directors usually start shooting from one side of the set, where they do longer, the medium, and then the close-up and then switch over to the other side of the set to shoot the same series of shots from the other actor’s perspective.
Here you MUST remember and repeat exactly what you have said or movements you have made or props you have used in the first shot in the subsequent shots with different angles or for medium and close up shots. Of course, the exaggeration of facial expressions and physical movements will be comparatively subtle as you shoot from long shot to close up
One final word of advice regarding acting on-camera in the scene: this is your moment to let it all go, make it all about the chemistry between you and the other actors and enjoy what you're doing. You should have your lines down by now and all your homework should be put away. This is the time simply have a conversation with the actor across from you and enjoy the process of entertaining. That's when the greatest acting happens.

5. What Do You When You’re Done?

It's happened many times that after a director finishes shooting a scene they suddenly realize they need to shoot more, for one reason or another. It happens. Just be flexible and wait to be told what to do. On a set, the actors aren't the center of attention. The director and his short list are the most important thing. Everything revolves around that list and what needs to be done in order to get all the shots. Wait till 2nd AD tells you that you are done for the day

Learn Meisner Or Get Your Scene Removed By Film Editor | Why?

An actor scene is removed

An actor scene with Shah Rukh Khan is removed
My scene with Shah Rukh Khan  is removed

I had given a party to celebrate my brief shot with celebrity Shah Rukh Khan. I was my first break. But to my utter shock, this disappeared from the film and I was a laughing stock in the eyes of my parents and friends. When I talked to the director, she didn't comment. I'm shattered. Why this could happen? Mohini Gaikwad

Because You Listened And Reacted Badly On Camera. You Don't Know "Reality Of Doing"

Film Editing And The Film Editor

The actors must know what is a film editing and the role of an editor. For actors, in simple term he\she is the final key factor to decide whether an actors scene should be included in a film or in a TV serial scene or should be removed. The inclusion of an actor scene largely depends on how well he/she has listened and reacted truthfully for the camera, an actor's overall performance which may comprise of different shots and finally whether it is contributing and enhancing the value of the film or not.
There is an amazing acting technique of Sanford Meisner, the legendary acting coach, and a writer. This must be learned by all actors who dream to become a star-Author

(Film editing is a technical part of the post-production process of filmmaking. The term is derived from the traditional process of working with the film which increasingly involves the use of digital technology.
The film editor works with the raw footage, selecting shots and combines them into sequences which create a finished motion picture. Film editing is described as an art or skill, the only art that is unique to cinema, separating filmmaking from other art forms that preceded it, although there are close parallels to the editing process in other art forms such as poetry and novel writing. Film editing is often referred to as the "invisible art" because when it is well-practiced, the viewer can become so engaged that he or she is not aware of the editor's work.
On its most fundamental level, film editing is the art, technique, and practice of assembling shots into a coherent sequence. The job of an editor is not simply to mechanically put pieces of a film together, cut off film slates or edit dialogue scenes. A film editor must creatively work with the layers of images, story, dialogue, music, pacing, as well as most importantly, the actors' performances to effectively suit the camera -source)

Why Was Your Scene Removed?

Unfortunately, because of repeated readings of the script which has co-actors' lines as well and rehearsals, we know what would be the next line and take it as granted and when actually spoken on camera, we don't REALLY listen. This could be a terrible mistake. The scene and our reactions look lifeless and fake which an editor hates. In a big film, he may ruthlessly cut off your piece or as an extreme measure, tell the director or a producer to "pack off this actor". Especially this is 90% true in Indian TV serial in a reaction shot-Author

The Best And Easiest Learning Acting Technique

The Great Natural Way of Acting-Sanford Meisner

Sanford Meisner
Sanford Meisner

You will NEVER be successful till you learn Meisner's Acting Technqiue

The best experience in an actor's life is the realization that he/she is not the character which seems to them or others, but simply the exposing the different colors of his/her life itself. The height of "experience" in acting is the reverse; that "I AM the characters I play in front of the camera!  Every moment is new. The mind creates in a natural way and instantly in response to the requirements of the situation. Every moment a new character is born, live a little and die.
This was not always the case. A child is always is very imaginative, always in a fantasy. But the harsh competition of human, always acutely painful and changes a kid.
The years at acting schools do nothing to improve the situation and in fact, make you worse. Nothing you learn to reverse back into a creative child who is the true force of an actor's creative impulses. You are expected to create a thing called a "character" on a shaky foundation of "just pretending". No wonder that acting became increasingly stressful and dishonest. There is some odd occasion in some of the highly imaginative and talented actors when miraculously the awful pretense would collapse and the creative acting would effortlessly emerge but these moments were few.
Most of us are unhappy with our acting and my life. It remains devoid of truth and beauty and involves terrible effort. Underneath this fake self-confidence, most of us don't have any clear idea of what we are doing so the work remains hit and miss. We search endlessly in acting classes, auditions, on set performance, alternative lifestyles, travel, observing people and from other actors.

So what should we do? Continue struggling endlessly? Learn all the acting techniques in the world and get disintegrated into nothing and become a confused corpse?
Then hopefully, someday you will find a ray of hope and brightness:

How Can You Learn Meisner's Acting Technique?

Simple And Practical Learning Approach With Co actors or friends at home

Requirement: At least 1 co-actor or a friend

1. The Reality of Doing

Listen and do- here the focus is on really listening and not pretending to listen
Let me explain:
You have a scene where you are supposed to drink tea from an empty cup and every hour as a rehearsal. And this you do every hour repeatedly with your friend before he shoots this scene finally on webcam or mobile. You go on pretending. In the final take when you are drinking out of the cup, you get surprised that it was not empty and there was water in the cup that you forgot your lines! The reality of doing was so foreign to you that it caught you off guard. You had been "so programmed" to "pretend" to drink that had no clue how to really drink out of the cup even though that is what I was doing every hour in rehearsals. Sanford Meisner said that we are supposed to live truthfully under imaginary circumstances and this is done by setting up the foundation of acting which is the reality of doing.

2. Word Repetition Game

A famous the word repetition game. It is the basis of learning the Meisner technique, it was created to get actors out of their heads so they don't think but do. Sandy Meisner wanted to create the simplest task so that actors would not have to think and could focus on doing. With word repetition, you are to repeat accurately everything your partner says.

Repetition develops listening ability
My own learning example
On my first day of coaching session for Meisner's technique, I was told to sit down across from my partner, they would make an observation about me, say it, and I was to repeat EXACTLY what they say the word for word. My partner looked at me and said "You have a pretty smile" and I repeated "You have a pretty smile" we did this for about one minute and I got kudos because I simply knew how to listen! That's it knowing how to listen was getting me one step closer to becoming a better actor.

3. Repeating from your point of view

The next hour I got up again and this time we did the same thing, but now instead of saying it word for word I was to tell it from my point of view. "You have on a green shirt" and I said "I have on a green shirt" We did this several times going back and forth making an observation with each other. The next hour I got up to play the word repetition game again, feeling pretty confident that I did well that past two days I was ready to get to work.
My Partner was told to make an observation of me and he said "You look shit" and without me thinking I said, “I have look shit?" The coach and others broke out in laughter because I was clearly not happy about that comment! The coach stopped us and asked me how I felt about that comment and I said it made me a little angry and that I thought it was an asshole thing to say and he told me "well tell him that"! The pinch

That's when I was told the third most important thing I learned from the repetition game Listening, Point of view, and THE PINCH! That feeling I felt about the comment was the pinch the point in the repetition game that I could now say how I felt about the comment. "You have big hair" "I have big hair?" "You have big hair" "That's an asshole thing to say"...!!! Waiting for the pinch is confusing because it happens at different times for people.
The most important thing I learned is, no matter how long you do repetition waits for the pinch! Most people don't wait and make a change themselves and by doing that they are not reacting truthfully. I would do repetition sometimes for minutes until the change naturally happened. You know the feeling and by not waiting for the pinch you are doing yourself an in-service because you are not acting truthfully. I don't care if you have to do repetition for hours WAIT for the pinch, let the change come naturally! Now, of course, it doesn't take that long, but you get my point. The actors who did the best in the class knew this was a key rule in mastering the Meisner Technique.

The word repetition game is the foundation of the Meisner technique. It is so simple because you don't have to think you just have to listen and do. The actors who did not listen to their partners were the ones who made the change themselves in order to make something happen. If they just simply listened to their partner the change will naturally come. Sanford Meisner said don't create change wait for a pinch, it's about your instinct. One of the most beneficial things I learned was to NOT BE POLITE! Being polite will get you nowhere with the Meisner Technique because it is expressing how you really feel.

4. Practice and Practice!

My rule of thumb is practice three times a day if you can. Always practice at least once,  especially in the beginning of your training. Make repetition second nature to you; get it so ingrained in you that you don't think you just do. I use to practice three times daily it was hard, but if you want to be the best you have to work for the best. Actors have to train just like any other profession.

5. Imagine a scene as a reality

Replace feeling emotions of a character with your own life experiences, if have one similar. If no then
Consider "IF". For example, if I'm a Police Officer, If I'm in an extreme cold or at the blistering hot desert, a thief, murderer, taxi driver, judge and so on-How will I react to a situation in a scene?
The best is to take any story or a script and improvise (read relevant posts from this blog on improvisation)
